The week ahead: Stormy Monday yields to a quiet and seasonable rest of the week
Hello everyone! Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Monday, February 12th, 2024 and the rest of the week ahead.
Monday will be a bit of a stormy day at times as the storm system works through the southeast and mid-Atlantic states.
A decent soaking rain appears ahead, with 1-2 inches likely in many spots, and the best chance for heavier rain will be found the further north you go.
Temperatures will start in the low 60s and warm to the mid 70s in the afternoon.
Breaks in the rain are possible, but overall I’d be ready for a wet day.
Few thunderstorms will be possible later in the afternoon and evening, and given some good shear profiles and strong windfields, a couple of those storms could be on the strong side with damaging winds the main concern.
More instability can develop, we could even see some hailstones as well as a brief tornado.
The vast majority of us won’t see severe weather, though keep an ear out for possible watches and warnings just in case.
After the storm system departs overnight on Monday, winds will pick up behind the front, gusting 20-30 mph on Tuesday morning as cooler and drier air works into the area.
Highs Tuesday top out in the mid 60s, closer to mid-February norms.
We’ll do this again on Wednesday before temperatures start to rebound on Thursday.
Expect highs in the upper 60s to around 70 on both Thursday and Friday, ahead of the next storm system timed for this weekend, which looks to bring in some cooler than normal temperatures for next week.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for February 12th, 2024.
