Tuesday's forecast: Still windy and chilly, but at least the rain's gone
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Tuesday, February 6th, 2024.
We shed Monday’s clouds and rain, but the chill and wind remains on Tuesday as high pressure builds into the area, butting up against low pressure offshore and keeping the gradient pinched.
So expect winds upwards of 20 mph with gusts to 30 mph at times once again on Tuesday, which may make for some troublesome bridge driving as well as a very chilly start.
Clouds on Tuesday start in the upper 30s, but it’ll feel almost 10 degrees colder thanks to the windchill.
The flow of cool air continues throughout the day, and that’ll keep our highs pinned in the mid to upper 50s despite the sunshine.
There will also be a coastal flooding risk early Tuesday morning as tidal departures remain impressive with a strong northeast flow.
The 4.32am high tide is forecast to peak around 7.5 to 7.7 feet as of this recording on Monday evening.
These heights would be enough to close several roads downtown if this verifies, not to mention some of the ramps leading to and from West Ashley.
So if you’re an early riser and downtown is in your plans, keep this in mind and be ready to find alternate routes.
High pressure moves more overhead on Wednesday, and this will finally allow winds to begin to relax, but not before we start the day with air temperatures flirting with freezing and windchills dipping well into the 20s.
We may also deal with another round of coastal flooding with a 5.33am high tide, so factor that into your commute plans if you need to.
Wednesday will still be on the chilly side despite more sunshine.
Expect highs to only top out in the mid 50s at best.
A warming trend commences starting Thursday though.
After one more near freezing start, we’ll warm into the low 60s in the afternoon, much closer to where we should be for this point in February.
Temperatures don’t stop warming from there though.
We’ll be in the 70s on Friday afternoon as high pressure continues to move offshore, allowing a more warm and moist air mass to pump into the area.
This will come with gradually more and more cloud cover, but any rain should hold off until at least Saturday when the next front starts to get close.
