Sunday's forecast: Turning breezy and unsettled ahead of a storm system
Hello everyone! Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Sunday, February 4th, 2024.
Our run of quieter weather comes to an end on Sunday as a storm system moves into the area from the west.
We’ll see clouds increase throughout the day, with northeasterly winds also picking up as the pressure gradient tightens.
The aforementioned northeasterly wind keeps us on the cool side again on Sunday.
Expect to start in the upper 30s to around 40 degrees, with highs maxing out around 60 degrees in the afternoon.
Showers should hold off for at least the first part of the day, but chances will increase heading into Sunday afternoon and especially Sunday evening.
This storm will peak overnight Sunday into Monday with gusty winds approaching 30-35 miles an hour, periods of heavy rain, especially near the coast, and the risk for coastal flooding around the 3-34am high tide early on Monday morning.
Rainfall amounts before it’s all said and done could peak into the 1-2 inch range easily for many gauges in the metro, making for a fairly significant soaking for this time of year.
Add water levels approaching moderate flood stage in Charleston Harbor to this, and it is possible that early Monday morning could turn into quite a mess.
Keep an eye on tide and model trends, stay tuned.
