The week ahead: Turning much warmer than normal
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Monday, January 22nd, 2024, and a look at the week ahead.
After a frigid weekend that included Sunday morning wind chills dropping into the single digits in a couple spots, including the Ravenel Bridge, we’ll warm up in a big way this upcoming week.
First though, we need to deal with Monday.
We’ll start the day in the mid-20s one more time, but as Arctic high pressure slips offshore, we’ll begin to see this air mass modify nicely.
Highs on Monday top out in the mid to upper 50s with generally partly cloudy skies expected, though those clouds will be on the increase as the day goes on.
Tuesday starts in the mid-40s, roughly where highs ended up each day this weekend, and warms to the upper 60s in the afternoon with a few showers possible as a coastal trough starts to take shape and the return feed of warm and moist air gives that trough something to work with.
This remains the theme for much of the week as temperatures get even warmer.
Wednesday should top out around 70 degrees, while we should reach the mid-70s Thursday through Saturday before a cold front knocks highs slightly back on Sunday, but even still, it’ll be around 70 degrees then too.
Lows will be even more impressive, as we may start each day in the back half of the work week in the 60s right around the normal high for mid to late January.
And again, the only fly in the ointment here is that showers will continue to pose a risk, though rainfall totals are not expected to be terribly heavy.
We could see an uptick in shower chances heading into later in the week as a front approaches the area, but we’ll keep an eye on this for adjustments down the road.
Stay tuned.
