Weekend forecast: Quite cold, but thankfully it's relatively short-lived
Hello everyone, Jarrett Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Saturday, January 20th, 2024 and the rest of a very cold weekend.
Temperatures are plummeting as of this recording, heading for the mid-twenties on Saturday morning.
Wind chills will run even colder, making it feel more like the upper teens to around 20 degrees.
Got a morning run or another outing planned?
Dress appropriately, it’s going to be chilly.
Winds remain elevated throughout the day, likely making air temperatures in the mid-forties feeling much more like the thirties.
So not much relief, despite full sunshine.
The coldest temperatures of the season thus far remain likely Saturday night into Sunday morning.
We’ll head below freezing relatively quickly after sunset, and will likely stay there through mid-morning Sunday, with lows bottoming out in the low twenties across much of the metro area.
And we can’t rule out a few readings in the upper teens either, especially around rural areas away from water.
Additionally, there’s going to be a wind chill advisory on Sunday morning, running from about 1am to 10am.
And this is going to be for wind chills approaching the single digits.
Not fun.
This will be a long-duration freeze, with impacts all the way to the coast, so many spots that normally don’t dip to freezing will have to take some precautions against busted pipes, especially for elevated structures where the pipes may be more exposed to the elements.
Drip a faucet, keep cabinets open to let warm air circulate, and don’t forget to ensure your plants are protected and your pets are inside.
High temperatures on Sunday once again only climb to about the low to mid-forties in the afternoon, and winds will continue to persist a bit, making it feel even a little cooler.
However, the cold snap is relatively short-lived.
After one more sup-freezing start Monday morning, high pressure begins to shift offshore a bit, sending winds back to the south and warming us up for Monday afternoon.
And the warming trend continues through mid-week, and we’re back to the seventies by Wednesday, albeit with some shower chances as well.
After all, you just can’t win them all.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for January 20th, 2024.
