Friday & the weekend: Brief warm reprieve before we get back in the freezer
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Friday, January 19th, 2024 and the upcoming weekend, which is going to be a cold one.
Friday though gets off to a relatively warm start.
We begin the day in the mid 40s with a slight chance of a stray shower in the area ahead of a cold front.
Temperatures will head up to the low 60s by early afternoon as we start to see cloud cover break up with drier air moving in behind the front, and from there we should begin to cool off with upper 40s expected by 7pm.
Wind temperatures plummet as winds go northwesterly, dropping below freezing for a few hours as we bottom out in the upper 20s on Saturday morning.
Winds will be brisk, and wind chills will likely drop into the upper teens, so be ready for that.
The ongoing cold advection will keep highs capped to the mid 40s on Saturday afternoon despite full sunshine.
Clear skies will continue heading into a very cold Saturday night into Sunday morning.
You’ll need to take precautions to protect pets, plants, pipes, and people on Saturday night as temperatures will be heading into the danger zone for cold around here.
We’ll be headed to the low 20s by daybreak on Sunday, and wind speeds around 10-12 mph or so will cause wind chills to get very close to single digits.
A wind chill advisory appears likely for Sunday morning, and you’ll want to dress appropriately for the weather if you’re going to be heading out.
This deep freeze should make it to the coast too, so all of us will need to take precautions against busted pipes or even hypothermia.
Clear skies will persist along with winds out of the northwest, those will be shifting northerly during the day, and that will once again keep highs down in the mid 40s on Sunday afternoon.
After one more freezing start Monday morning, temperatures begin to recover and will head well above normal for next week.
Expect highs around 60 degrees on Monday, mid 60s on Tuesday, and low to mid 70s for Wednesday and Thursday, but that comes along with a rain chance as well.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for January 19th, 2024.
