Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Sunday, January 7th, 2024.

After a 75 degree day on Saturday, the warmest thus far in this very young year, we’ll cool back off towards normal on Sunday.

We start the day in the mid 40s and warm to around 60 degrees in the afternoon under partly cloudy skies.

Those cooler high temperatures will come courtesy of some breezy westerly winds running about 10 to 15 miles an hour.

We may have another day of gusts 25 to 30 miles an hour so be alert in case you have any plans to drive the bridges or you’re thinking about an impromptu inflatable jump castle party.

Those kinds of winds can send those things flying so you want to be careful with that.

We stay a little breezy and on the cool side heading into Monday.

Clouds will be increasing throughout the day with showers possibly starting as early as Monday evening but the greater risk of rain arrives of the potent storm system on Tuesday.

Tuesday morning may feature a rather high tide with moderate to major flooding possible in Charleston Harbor.

It’ll coincide with some rain showers but we should keep the heaviest rain away from that high tide at least.

From there attention will turn to the risk for severe thunderstorms with a squall line likely coming through in the afternoon to early evening hours.

A very strong low-level jet will be present and sheer looks rather impressive but instability remains the main question mark as is often the case in the cool season.

Still if that instability can materialize we may be talking about damaging wind gusts and the potential for maybe even a tornado.

So stay tuned to forecast updates for now.

We’ll keep you posted as the details become refined.
