Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024 and the rest of the workweek.

Wednesday gets off to a freezing start across much of the metro away from the coastline.

Expect lows to dip to around 30 to 31 degrees in the metro and perhaps even into the upper 20s further inland thanks to mostly clear skies and calm winds allowing for good radiational cooling overnight.

We’ll warm to the upper 50s in the afternoon, though at a cost as showers arrive late afternoon into the evening in association with a storm system that will be moving across the Gulf Coast throughout the day.

These showers should be relatively short lived though, and by daybreak on Thursday we’re clearing out nicely.

Expect to start Thursday in the upper 30s before warming to the mid 50s in the afternoon under mostly clear skies.

We stay mostly sunny and quiet on Friday, which gets off to a near freezing start once again before warming back to the mid 50s.

The next storm system is time for Saturday, and this one will be a little bit more potent than the one that comes through on Wednesday, with a greater risk for strong gusty winds as well as heavy rain.

Right now coastal flooding doesn’t appear to be a concern, but the heavy rain could cause some freshwater flooding, especially if it falls near high tide.

That storm should be out of here by Sunday, and Sunday looks fairly quiet, but the pattern overall looks to remain fairly active, with the next storm system after that one timed for Tuesday.

As always, forecast adjustments should be expected, so stay tuned to updates as we head into the weekend.
