Thursday's forecast: Clouds break up, we start to cool off
Hello everyone, Jarrett Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Thursday, December 28th, 2023.
Well, Wednesday was it for the 70s for 2023 as the first round of cooler and drier air continues to work into the area overnight into Thursday.
We’ll start Thursday in the low 50s, which is still well above normal for the last week of December, but temperatures will only get to the low 60s though, as another round of cooler and drier air starts to move in behind a cold front.
Cloud cover will scour out, especially in the afternoon, and that’ll yield a much sunnier string of days heading into the new year.
Friday will be a cool and breezy day.
We’ll start the day around 40, but ongoing cold advection will keep highs limited to about the mid 50s despite full sunshine.
Saturday will start in the mid 30s, with some spots flirting with freezing, before warming to the mid 50s in the afternoon with just a few clouds as low pressure aloft works into the area.
The core of the cold has stared to part Sunday afternoon, so while we’ll still run below normal, we’ll warm to the upper 50s in the afternoon, a few degrees warmer than Saturday.
And if you’ve got plans to be out to ring in the new year, have a jacket.
Temperatures are going to be falling into the mid 40s as the clock strikes midnight and the year returns to 2024.
Finally, with another 0.48 inches of rain on Wednesday as low pressure departed, looks like we’ve clinched the 5th wettest December on record at Charleston International Airport at 6.88 inches for the month.
No additional precipitation is expected as we close out December, so this should be the number we end up with.
This bests December 2019 6.57 inches of rain, but still falls far short of the 11.08 inches we received in December 1941.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for December 28th, 2023.
