Thursday's forecast: Another cold start, but a warming trend begins
Hello everyone! Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Thursday, December 21st, 2023.
We have one more freezing start ahead of us on Thursday before our Christmas warm-up commences.
Temperatures look to once again bottom out around 30-31 degrees or so in the morning, so make sure your pets and plants are protected.
Thursday will signal the start of a warming trend, though, as high pressure aloft begins to ridge in.
This will help temperatures climb into the upper 50s to around 60 on Thursday afternoon, a few degrees warmer than where we ended up on Tuesday, and much closer to normal for this part of December.
Skies will be partly cloudy to mostly sunny, with some high clouds once again traversing the area and perhaps helping to create some nice atmospheric optics like the sun dog we saw on Wednesday.
It’d be tough to describe Friday as necessarily getting off to a warmer start, but at least most of us won’t dip below freezing again as lows bottom out in the mid-30s.
Warm to the low 60s in the afternoon, about right on target for December 22nd norms.
Once again, expect a mix of sun and generally high clouds.
The warming trend continues as we head into Festivus on Saturday.
Certainly no grievances to air with the weather, at least, unless you want it to be colder, of course.
Expect mid-60s highs and partly cloudy skies as you embark on your feats of strength.
We’ll keep this weather vibe going into Christmas Eve, with another day of mid-60s highs expected after a mid-40s start.
Clouds will be on the increase, though, portending the next storm system that will start to affect the area perhaps as soon as Christmas Day, and should last into the middle of the final week of 2023.
Finally, the winter solstice arrives at 1027 PM on Thursday.
We’ll have only 9 hours, 58 minutes, and 28 seconds of sunlight on Thursday and Friday, but from there, the sun will start to set a little later in the day.
By New Year’s Eve, it’ll be setting at 523 PM, a marked improvement from Thursday’s sunset of 517 PM.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for December 21st, 2023.
