Rest of the work week: Still chilly, but gradual warming begins Thursday
Hello, everyone! Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Wednesday, December 20th, 2023.
We get off to another chilly start on Wednesday as lows bottom out in the mid to upper 20s across much of the metro area away from the locally warmer coastline.
Light northerly winds will keep wind chills going a few degrees cooler, too, but temperatures will warm back in the low 50s in the afternoon, though, with a mix of sun and high clouds expected for a fair bit of the day.
We’ll dip below freezing one more time Thursday morning before starting to see a warming trend really start to take shape as a ridge of high pressure strengthens aloft.
Temperatures should warm to the upper 50s to around 60 degrees Thursday afternoon under partly cloudy skies.
Suspect that’s going to feel pretty good after the last few days.
Friday will start in the mid 30s, with the vast majority of us staying above freezing on Friday morning.
Temperatures will then warm to the low 60s in the afternoon, pretty much right on target for mid-December climatology.
Rain-free conditions will continue, with high clouds once again filtering in from time to time against an otherwise sunny sky.
Peaking ahead at Christmas weekend, it’s increasingly looking like we stay rain-free through Sunday before shower chances head up during Christmas Day.
Temperatures will run a few degrees above normal starting Saturday, and will stay that way through at least early next week.
As always, timing on these kinds of systems can be fluid a few days out, so stay tuned to forecast updates for Christmas weekend as the details come together.
