Tuesday's forecast: Turning quite chilly, and we stay that way through mid-week
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, and a peek at the rest of the work week, closing in on Christmas weekend.
But first, a sad update from Sunday’s storm.
Charleston County coroner confirms a 72-year-old woman in the Ravens Run area of Mount Pleasant drowned when her car became overtaken and submerged by floodwater.
One death is too many, and it underscores just how dangerous flooding truly can be.
My thoughts are with her family and friends as they navigate and grieve this loss.
And now the forecast.
An overnight cold front will swing through with a wind shift to the northwest and north, bringing in a shot of chilly high pressure that’ll hang around for a few days.
Tuesday will be the coldest day overall this week.
Expect much of us to start the day around freezing, warming to just the upper 40s in the afternoon despite full sunshine.
Winds will stay elevated throughout the day, making it feel like the mid-20s in the morning, so be sure to incorporate layering into your clothing strategy for Tuesday.
And we’ll essentially repeat Tuesday and Wednesday, with temperatures spending a couple hours below freezing once again in the morning and wind chills being driven back into the 20s.
Wednesday will top out a few degrees warmer though, with low 50s expected.
We’ll see a little bit more in the way of cloud cover too, but there will still be an abundance of sunshine overall.
We’ll get one more at or below freezing start on Thursday, but a warming trend will become apparent throughout the day as highs top out in the upper 50s to around 60.
This is still a bit below normal for this point in December, but certainly not as much.
By Friday, we are back in the 60s in the afternoon after a mid-30s start.
Peaking ahead into Christmas weekend, we look to stay around, if not slightly on the warm side of normal.
Saturday looks dry, but as high pressure tries to wedge southward starting Sunday and a coastal trough develops, it is possible that we could start to see a few showers.
Rain chances unfortunately head up for Christmas Day too.
We’ll keep an eye on this, so stay tuned to forecast updates as the week goes on.
