Thursday's forecast: Turning breezy and cooler after a brief warmup
Hello everyone! Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Thursday, December 14th, 2023, as well as a look at Friday and the weekend.
It’ll be a breezy and cool Thursday as strong high pressure continues to build in from the north.
We start the day in the low 40s, which is slightly warmer than the past two mornings, but thermometers will struggle to the upper 50s in the afternoon as gusty northeasterly winds will help keep temperatures down despite mostly sunny skies.
Those same northeasterly winds will contribute to a coastal flood risk with the morning commute as well.
High tide around 8.37am could get high enough to produce minor to moderate coastal flooding, closing some roads in the process.
Be ready to reroute if downtown or other vulnerable locations are in your plans.
Friday gets off to another chilly start in the mid 30s.
Winds will remain elevated, taking wind chills down to the upper 20s in the morning.
We’ll keep some breezy conditions in place, though it shouldn’t be as breezy as Thursday.
Warm to about 60 degrees in the afternoon under mostly sunny skies.
There will be a risk for coastal flooding with high tide around 9.30am once again, so keep that in mind as you plan your commute.
Clouds will increase on Saturday as low pressure begins to organize in the gulf.
More warm and moist air will begin to work into the area, and that will help highs reach the mid 60s after starting around 40 degrees.
We should get much of Saturday in rain free, though we could start to see some showers sneak in beginning as early as Saturday night.
The better risk for rain arrives as the low makes its closest approach on Sunday.
There’s still some differences in track to resolve, but the general gist is that Sunday will be a windy and rainy day, especially near the coast where the risk for strong winds will be greatest.
Depending on the low pressure track, we could see a few thunderstorms as well, but that’s not yet quite clear.
Stay tuned as the forecast is fine tuned, but for now, and I rarely say this, it is increasingly looking safe to think about riding off Sunday’s outdoor activities.
