Friday and the weekend: Turning warmer, but Sunday's looking like a wash
Hello everyone, Jarrett Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Friday, December 8th, 2023 and the upcoming weekend.
We’ve got one more chilly start on Friday, as lows bottom out generally in the upper 30s, and that’s a few degrees on the cool side of normal for this point in the year.
With high pressure slipping offshore, though, we will see temperatures rebound to the mid-60s in the afternoon, generally under a mix of sun and clouds.
All in all, it will generally be a seasonally appropriate afternoon, as highs will run right around normal.
Warming continues into Saturday, which will get off to a significantly warmer start than Friday did, with lows only falling to the low 50s.
Highs will then head to the low to mid 70s in the afternoon under generally partly cloudy skies.
Saturday will certainly be the pick day of the weekend for outdoor activities with warm temperatures and quiet weather expected.
Definitely try to take advantage, because Sunday, while it’ll still be warm, will be much more unsettled as a strong storm system and its cold front move through the eastern half of the U.S.
A few showers will be possible in the morning, but rain is most likely as we head into the afternoon and evening hours.
A few spots could even see rain totals approaching an inch.
It’ll be a breezy day, too! Wind gusts could approach 30 mph, with potentially even higher gusts on bridges and overpasses.
And while instability will be limited, there’ll be plenty of strong wind aloft, and if a thunderstorm or two can get going, they could tap into that strong low-level jet and bring down even higher gusts.
However, the risk for severe weather is still low, owing to that lack of instability.
Rain should persist into the overnight, and by daybreak on Monday, cooler and drier air will be moving in, with below normal temperatures expected for much of next week.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for December 8th, 2023.
