Wednesday's forecast: More sunshine, but breezier and cooler
Hello everyone, Jarrett Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Wednesday, December 6th, 2023, with a look at the rest of the workweek, and even a peek at the weekend.
A chilly wind will punctuate Wednesday in the wake of a dry cold front.
Temperatures will start in the mid-40s, but will struggle to around 60 degrees in the afternoon despite mostly sunny skies as cold high pressure builds into the area.
Thursday will be the coldest day of the week, as we’ll start in the mid-30s in much of the metro area, with freezing temperatures possible further inland.
Even still, wind chills may dip below freezing at times as a little bit of northerly wind persists in the morning.
It will be another crystal clear day, but the unfettered sunshine will only be able to warm us up to the upper 50s as the core of the cold air moves across the area.
The cold is short-lived though, as high pressure slips offshore Friday ahead of what could be a fairly strong storm system.
Winds around the back of the exiting high pressure will pump warmer air back into the area, and after we start in the upper 30s to around 40 on Friday, we’ll top out in the mid-60s.
Cloud cover will be on the increase as a trough tries to take shape near the coast, but will stay rain free.
The weekend is still looking unsettled, particularly on Sunday as that storm system I mentioned earlier heads towards the eastern seaboard.
Saturday could feature a few showers as a warm front lifts across the area, but the best chance of rain will arrive on Sunday as the storm system’s cold front sweeps through.
Winds ahead of the front will be on the gusty side, and there’s a chance that a few downpours could occur.
There’s a non-zero chance of a severe storm, but the risk for severe weather looks quite limited given the lack of instability.
If some instability does develop, though, there will be more than enough wind shear to work with to potentially drive a few stronger storms.
That’s looking unlikely at this point, though, but stay tuned to forecast updates as we head towards the weekend.
There’s still some timing discrepancies and finer details to work out.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for December 6th, 2023.
