The week ahead: Mostly quiet as temperatures turn progressively cooler for mid-week
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Monday, December 4th, 2023, and a look at the week ahead.
Expect generally quiet weather this week with a few shots of progressively cooler air, particularly around midweek.
Monday gets us off to a warm start, with lingering overcast keeping lows from bottoming out too far into the 50s.
We’ll warm into the low 70s in the afternoon as cloud cover breaks up, and overall should be a pretty nice day.
A weakening in dry front gets through late, and this will help shift winds around a little more to the northwest to bring in more cooler and drier air for Tuesday.
We can expect Tuesday to start roughly 10-12 degrees cooler than Monday, with lows expected in the mid 40s, followed by highs topping out in the mid 60s, right around if not slightly on the cool side of early December norms.
Wednesday and Thursday look to be the coolest of the set, as strong high pressure builds in behind yet another dry cold front overnight Tuesday into Wednesday morning.
Wednesday starts in the low 40s, with windchills feeling closer to the upper 30s, and highs will only get to the upper 50s to around 60 in the afternoon despite partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies.
Thursday will start even cooler, with lows in the mid 30s in the metro, with areas further inland perhaps getting down towards freezing.
Clear skies will prevail as highs top out in the upper 50s.
From there, temperatures will head back up as high pressure slips offshore and winds go back more to the southwest.
Friday starts in the upper 30s, but will warm to the mid 60s, while we should touch 70 degrees again by Saturday.
Right now the next shower chance looks to arrive on Sunday.
As always though, stay tuned to forecast updates as the finer details of the forecast are better resolved by the models and trends become apparent.
