Wednesday's forecast: Freeze warning in effect for the morning; chilly through Thursday, then warming
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, as well as the rest of the work week.
First a heads up that a freeze warning is in effect for Wednesday morning.
Expect temperatures to dip below freezing, perhaps for several hours, away from the immediate coast, with lows bottoming out well into the 20s inland of 17a and around 30 degrees elsewhere in the metro.
Even though some spots, such as downtown Charleston or the Barrier Islands, may not go below freezing, enough moisture should be available to cause some patches of frost to develop as well.
So for everyone, bring in your sensitive plants and make sure your pets have a warm place to be.
And if you’re further inland, you might want to consider dripping a faucet too.
We will only warm to the mid 50s on Wednesday afternoon, despite full sunshine, owing to the chill of the arctic air mass.
Then inland locations look to dip back below freezing Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with patchy frost once again possible across the metro.
Now it’s important to note that if the freeze on Wednesday morning pans out the way it’s expected to, that would end the growing season, and thus frost and freeze products, so there may be no freeze warning or frost advisory for Thursday, so something to keep in mind.
Frost and freeze products would return in March when the growing season restarts.
Now we will start to see a warming trend begin on Thursday though, as high pressure begins to slip offshore and the core of the coldest air moves away.
Expect Thursday’s highs to peak in the low 60s under partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies.
Friday morning will be much closer to climatology with lows in the mid 40s.
Highs on Friday top out in the low 70s, with the caveat that scattered showers are expected to develop later in the day.
We’ll keep rain chances going through the weekend into next week too, as the pattern remains unsettled for a few more days, but at least we won’t be having another round of rain with temperatures in the 40s like we saw on Sunday.
