Friday & the weekend: Showers depart in time for a nice weekend
Hello everyone! Jarrett Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Friday, November 17th, 2023 and the upcoming weekend.
Showers continue on Friday, but it will be tapering off as the day goes on as low pressure starts to pull away from the area.
It will be unseasonably warm, with highs topping out in the low 70s after a start near 60 degrees.
Rain amounts should be generally light, likely below a tenth of an inch in most spots, and we will see some breaks in the clouds as well.
The only other concern will be the risk for minor coastal flooding around the 1030-ish high tide on Friday morning.
Water levels will peak around 7 feet, and this will be enough to put some saltwater on the usual trouble spots, but not enough to cause much in the way of widespread issues.
Some be alert for saltwater on roads around Fishburn and Haygood and on Lockwood once again, but otherwise not expecting too many travel troubles downtown.
The rain departs in time for the weekend, which is looking pretty good.
Saturday will be the warmer of the two days ahead of a cold front.
Expect lows in the mid 50s in the morning followed by low to mid 70s in the afternoon under increasingly sunny skies.
The front gets by later Saturday, and by Sunday morning we’ll be feeling it, with lows in the upper 40s expected, some 10 degrees cooler than the previous day.
Highs on Sunday top out in the upper 60s to around 70, making for an overall nice day to get out and about.
There’s some late season action in the tropics to talk about, as potential Tropical Cyclone 22 has been christened in the Southern Caribbean.
It is not yet a tropical cyclone as of this recording, but is likely to become one during the day on Friday.
It should strengthen into a tropical storm as it approaches Jamaica and Cuba, and will reach a peak intensity of around 50 mph before making extratropical transition on Sunday.
It will be headed northeast, whisked away by the cold front that will chill us out on Sunday, and poses no threat to us here at home.
The next name in the list is Vince, and it is expected that 22 will grab that name, leaving only Whitney available before we move to the supplemental list of names.
And finally, you might remember that area off the southeast coast that the Hurricane Center was watching for a tiny sliver of a chance for tropical development.
Well, no worries there.
It is not expected to become a tropical cyclone.
It’s going to be moving away over the next couple days.
No concerns with this one.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for November 17th, 2023.
