Thursday's forecast: Scattered showers, then turning drier for Friday and the weekend
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Thursday, November 16th, 2023, with a look at Friday and the upcoming weekend as well.
Shower chances peak Thursday as a mid-level disturbance skirts by to the south and low pressure spins off the Florida coast, but it won’t rain all the time as the activity should generally be scattered in nature.
Temperatures will run a little warmer Thursday than they did on Wednesday, with highs in the low 70s expected as the wedge of high pressure that’s kept the cool air locked in for the past few days begins to weaken.
We will need to monitor Thursday morning’s high tide, expected to peak a little after 930, for the potential for minor coastal flooding.
Expect water levels to once again peak into the 7 to 7.2 foot range, putting some salt water on some vulnerable roads, but also not causing widespread problems.
Nevertheless, be ready to reroute if your commute plans take you near Haygood and Fishburn or along parts of Lockwood.
Rain chances diminish on Friday as low pressure pulls away, and we stay fairly warm for this point in the year with highs topping out in the mid 70s after a low 60s start.
We should see some sun break through the clouds at times as well.
The good news is that we dry out in time for the weekend.
Saturday will feature decreasing cloud cover and one more day of warm temperatures, with highs once again topping out in the low to mid 70s.
The cold front gets through later Saturday, and by Sunday morning, we’ll know quite definitively that it has passed, as temperatures start some 10 degrees cooler than Saturday.
Expect lows in the mid to upper 40s, and highs will climb just into the mid 60s as cooler air continues to settle into the area throughout the day, counteracting abundant sunshine.
And finally in the tropics, the National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a couple spots for potential development over the next few days.
The first, the area in the Caribbean I feel like I’ve been talking about forever, has a 50% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone as it moves towards Jamaica, Cuba, and Hispaniola later this week into the weekend.
Now it’s worth noting that this probability continues to drop with time, seems like it’s down 10% with every evening outlook.
Regardless, it’s expected to move northeasterly and well out to sea, not affecting us here in the United States, much less the Low Country.
There’s a second low probability area off the southeast coast, as the low pressure off Florida we discussed earlier interacts with the Gulf Stream.
It looks highly unlikely that it will develop any tropical characteristics, with only a 10% probability over the next few days.
It too will be moving away, and poses no direct tropical threat to us here in the Low Country.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for November 16th, 2023.
