Rest of the work week: Showers return
Hello everyone! Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Wednesday, November 15th, 2023 and the rest of the work week.
Showers return to the forecast on Wednesday as a disturbance approaches from the west, sending some moisture atop the cool wedge of high pressure to generate overcast and the occasional bit of rainfall.
Don’t expect much in the way of rainfall amounts though, as it appears abnormally dry conditions look to continue despite the recent and upcoming rain.
Temperatures on Wednesday start in the low 50s and warm into the mid 60s in the afternoon as we have one more day under the full influence of the wedge.
Said wedge begins to weaken heading into Thursday though, and the result will be temperatures running generally a few degrees warmer than they did on Wednesday.
Expect to start the day in the mid 50s and warm to around 70-72 in the afternoon despite continued overcast and scattered showers.
Friday starts even a little warmer, lows around 60 degrees look probable, with highs topping out a touch warmer in the low to mid 70s in the afternoon.
Winds will continue for one more day as low pressure spins off offshore, though a few breaks in the clouds will be possible too.
We will need to watch for coastal flooding with the morning high tides for the rest of the work week as well.
It will be minor in nature, water levels aren’t expected to go too far beyond 7-7.1 feet or so, but it could still be enough to close a road or two in the most vulnerable locations in downtown Charleston.
Stay tuned for possible coastal flood advisories through the end of the week.
The weekend is looking good.
Low pressure offshore will be moving away from the area, and cooler and drier air will steadily work its way in as a cold front pushes through on Saturday.
We start Saturday in the mid 50s with maybe a lingering shower or two before temperatures peak in the low 70s under increasingly sunny skies.
The cooler and drier air will be much more prominent on Sunday, with lows starting in the upper 40s and highs topping out in the mid 60s under abundant sunshine.
And finally, yes, the tropics.
The National Hurricane Center has its eyes on two areas now for possible tropical development.
The first is the area in the Caribbean we’ve been talking about for the past few days, and the second is kind of a long shot off the southeast coast, where the aforementioned low pressure has a tiny chance of perhaps taking on some tropical characteristics as it interacts with the Gulf Stream.
There’s nothing for us to be concerned about with these areas of disturbed weather though.
If you have plans for a Jamaican vacation over the next few days, you certainly might want to keep an eye on the weather, but other than that, keep your cow up and carry on.
15 more days until the end of hurricane season.
Can’t hardly wait.
