Thursday: Increasing clouds ahead of a Friday front; gorgeous weekend ahead
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Thursday, October 19th, 2023, as well as a peek at Friday and the upcoming weekend.
A coastal trough will sharpen during the day Thursday, sending some cloud cover our direction, but not too much else.
We start the day a little warmer than the previous couple days, generally in the low 50s across much of the metro.
Highs will head into the mid-70s in the afternoon despite the increasing cloud cover, and we should get Thursday in largely rain-free as well, though a stray sprinkle or two can’t be totally discounted at the immediate coast.
Our best rain chance for the foreseeable future arrives Friday afternoon as a cold front approaches the area.
Expect generally light to moderate showers, with a few thunderstorms through Friday evening, as some spots could see up to half-inch of rain before it’s all said and done.
Temperatures will once again peak in the mid-70s before showers arrive, and then from there a beautiful weekend awaits.
High pressure building in from the west will push a little cooler and drier air into the area, and northwesterly winds will help temperatures warm into the low to mid-70s each afternoon with nearly unfettered sunshine, especially on Saturday.
Clouds increase slightly on Sunday afternoon and evening as a dry cold front swings on through, which will knock temperatures down a few more degrees to start the new work week.
Looking across the tropical Atlantic, we see newly christened Tropical Storm Tammy, formerly known as Invest 94L, moving rather quickly to the west on approach to the Leeward Islands for impacts over the weekend as a fairly strong tropical storm.
Tammy will then recurve north and then northeast as we head into Sunday and beyond, keeping it far away from us here at home.
Elsewhere, there are no areas of interest that can make a run at the last two names up for grabs this season, Vince and Whitney.
And if we run out of names, we’ll roll over to a supplemental list of names established in 2021, which replaces the Greek alphabet after many of those storms ended up being rather disruptive in 2020.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for October 19th, 2023.
