The week ahead: Chilly start, but turning warmer again with an unsettled second half
Hello everyone! Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Monday, October 9th, 2023 with a look at your week ahead.
We get Monday off to a very chilly start as lows away from the coast should dip down into the 40s for the first time since May 4th.
We’ll start a warming trend though as high pressure slips offshore during the day and winds go southwesterly.
Expect highs to peak in the mid-70s, still a little below normal, but probably 2-3 degrees warmer than Sunday.
Brilliantly sunny skies should continue for one more day, but we should see a little more in the way of cloud cover on Tuesday.
Southwesterly winds will continue to drive highs into the low 80s though after a mid-50s start, so despite the cloud cover, it is going to run a little bit warmer.
Clouds thicken up even more Wednesday as the mid-level jet starts to crank a little bit, and there will even be a shot at a few showers as we head into the evening.
Rain chances peak Thursday into Friday as low pressure moves eastward out of the Gulf of Mexico, helping to transport some moisture over a wedge of high pressure that’ll be building in from the northeast.
That’ll keep things kind of cloudy and maybe a little bit on the cooler side, especially on Thursday.
A crumble of thunder could be possible on Friday evening as a warm front lifts north too.
Saturday looks to at least start on the warm side, but a front getting through later in the day will help dry things out and send Sunday’s highs back into the mid-70s.
So not a bad way to end the weekend.
The tropics remain relatively quiet of all things considered, with no active tropical cyclones as of this recording on Sunday evening.
There is one area south of the Cabo Verde Islands that has an 80% chance to develop into a depression by mid-week, but that disturbance appears to pose no threat to land and will stay far, far away from our neck of the woods.
And finally, thanks for your patience and your well wishes over the last few days as I continue to get over whatever this gunk is.
Still not 100%, as you can hear, but we’re going to give this a go and see how this works out.
At least it’s not COVID, right?
I’m going to continue easing back into the daily cadence, though, so there won’t be an episode on Monday night, but there will be one on Tuesday night.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for October 9th, 2023.
I’m Jared Smith.
