Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for the first day of fall, Saturday, September 23rd, 2023.

And we will feel reasonably fall-like on Saturday, as the outskirts of Ophelia keep some cloud cover in the area, keeping temperatures suppressed to the upper 70s in the afternoon.

Aside from a stray shower very early on, we get the day in rain-free.

Winds will still be a little elevated, though they should slacken as the day goes on, but don’t be surprised to see a couple gusts at 20, maybe 25 miles an hour still.

Sunday still looks like the best day to get outside if sun and mid-80s warmth are your things.

We start Sunday in the mid-60s and warm to around 85 to 87 degrees in the afternoon.

Winds will have diminished, too, as Ophelia will be leaving the area, and overall it should be a great day to get outside and do stuff, whatever that stuff may be.

In the tropics, we have Tropical Storm Ophelia, which was previously potential Tropical Cyclone 16, which at this recording was making its approach on southeastern North Carolina, where it is expected to make landfall as a strong tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 70 miles per hour.

By the time many of you hear this, it’s likely Ophelia will be inland and weakening.

As mentioned previously, Ophelia’s impacts on the Low Country are minimal, though we will still see an elevated rip current risk heading into the weekend.

Meanwhile, there’s only one other area of note in the Atlantic, and it’s way out there with plenty of time to watch it.

This area, tagged INVEST 90L, should be the next depression in the Atlantic Basin probably by the end of this weekend.

Guidance is once again pointing to a recurvature scenario that is somewhat like what we saw with Lee.

Now, disclaimer, there’s plenty of time for things to change there.

However, the pattern does support recurvature, so it looks like the models are probably on to the right idea here.

My advice with 90L is just keep an eye on forecast updates every now and again, not too much to worry about right now.

If it does develop as expected and get a name, the next name on the list is Philippe.
