Hello everyone! Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Saturday, September 9th, 2023.

Saturday won’t be a total washout, but we can expect showers and thunderstorms at times throughout the day as low pressure aloft cuts off across the area and a stalled front hangs out to the west.

Some spots may see some heavy rain, with 1-2 inches of rain possible where the heaviest rain falls.

And conversely, some of you may see very little rain at all.

That’s just how this goes sometimes.

Expect highs to top out in the mid to upper 80s, with cloud cover and rain in the area helping to keep temperatures down just a little bit.

The onshore flow won’t hurt there either.

We’ll keep shower and storm chances in the forecast for Sunday, with the best chances near the coast in the morning before moving inland with a sea breeze as the day progresses.

We’ll get some sunshine in there too, so once again, not a total loss by any stretch.

Expect highs once again generally running in the upper 80s after a low 70s start.

Peaking into the tropics, we have Tropical Storm Margot, which remains well out in the eastern Atlantic and is going to recurve into the central Atlantic well away from any landmasses as it reaches Cat 1 strength next week.

There are no concerns here for Margot.

And Lee is much weaker as of this recording.

As of Advisory 15, issued at 11pm Friday night by the National Hurricane Center, Lee is down to maximum sustained winds of 115mph, which makes it a Category 3 storm in the Saffir-Simpson Wind Scale.

Lee has had a rough go of it today, with southwesterly shear disrupting the storm quite a bit.

Still, Lee remains a major hurricane for the moment, and despite the potential for it to weaken a little bit more, the Hurricane Center forecast strengthens it back into a strong Category 4 as we head into early next week.

It’ll slow down then, too, as it awaits a trough to pick it back up and start the turn to the north, which looks to begin in earnest on Wednesday.

There’s still uncertainty as to where that turn ultimately will start to take place, but confidence is pretty good in that turn occurring, especially with it now being explicitly forecast by the Hurricane Center.

Waves and rip currents are going to be our main concerns in the Low Country from Lee.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on it, but for now, Lee continues to pose no direct threat to our area, and if that changes, we’ll let you know.

But otherwise, enjoy your weekend! And that was Charleston Weather Daily for September 9th, 2023.
