Friday and the weekend: An excellent stretch of weather
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Friday, September 1st, 2023, and the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
Well, Italia has become a distant memory, and the payoff is a pretty fantastic Labor Day weekend of weather as we welcome meteorological fall.
More in the way of cooler and drier air will take residents across the area, and that’s going to make for probably the nicest few days of weather we’ve experienced since early June.
It’ll certainly be the first stretch of mid-60s lows we’ve had in quite a while, except for at the coast, where it’s still going to run warmer thanks to 85 degree water temperatures.
Highs top out in the mid-80s Friday and Saturday afternoons with dew points in the low 60s, yielding pretty much right down the middle relative humidity values around 50% or so.
This’ll make for generally Goldilocks warmth, not too humid, not too dry, just right.
This’ll come with nearly unfettered sunshine for the next several days, so I hope you can take advantage.
It is a wonderful time, during a long weekend, to have a nice stretch of weather.
Temperatures begin to warm some as we head into Sunday, with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s expected.
We’re back in the upper 80s for Labor Day, a fitting send-off to summer I think, and back in the 90s by the middle of next week.
After all, we’re back into a transitional season, and we’ll increasingly see this tug of war between cooler, fall-like air and summer as the month goes on.
The only fly in the ointment this weekend will be the risk for coastal flooding at times of high tide.
Minor flooding will be possible during the morning high tide on Friday, with moderate flooding expected Friday night, so if you’re going to be downtown, be ready to route around some road closures.
The risk for minor flooding at times of high tide persists into the weekend, and perhaps even into Monday, before winds turn more westerly on Tuesday.
Oh, and there’s stuff happening in the tropics too, but none of it has to do with us, and I think we’ve all earned a break for a few days.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for September 1st, 2023.
