Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023.

After hitting 95 degrees on Monday, we should run a little warmer on Tuesday.

After starting in the mid-70s, expect highs to top out in the mid-90s under partly cloudy skies once again as the ridge remains stout aloft.

Heat indices will head up to around 105 to 108 at peak, and that’s well in that danger zone for heat illness, so be careful if you’re going to be outdoors.

A shower can’t be totally ruled out, we had one or two in the area on Monday, but otherwise don’t expect much in the way of rain to provide relief.

A front will move into the area late Tuesday into Wednesday.

It’ll actually get through this time, with an uptick in cloud cover and maybe a shower to go with it.

However, this is going to send dew points down into the low 60s during the afternoon and evening hours, with highs only topping out in the upper 80s on Wednesday.

That’s a nice little respite there.

We’ll keep the somewhat cooler and drier air around for Thursday, before winds go back to the southwest for Friday, bringing dew points back up and temperatures back into the mid-90s.

And we look to remain rain-free through Saturday, with plenty of sun actually heading into the weekend.

And now the tropics, oh the tropics.

The tropics remain quite busy.

Tropical Storm Emily opened up into a wave, but Tropical Depression Six briefly got strong enough to earn the name GERT.

It is now a Tropical Depression once more, and could unravel at any time.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Nine developed in the Gulf, and is expected to head into South Texas during the day on Tuesday, probably as a Tropical Storm, perhaps named Harold.

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Franklin continues to churn in the Caribbean, as it looks to move northward towards Hispaniola for midweek, potentially bringing flash flooding concerns to Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

Once it crosses the island, it is possible it may strengthen into a hurricane as it moves northeast before turning more northerly over the weekend.

And on top of all that, there are two other areas the National Hurricane Center is watching closely for possible development.

The first is west of the Cabo Verde Islands, and has a 70% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next week.

And the second is actually Emily’s remnants, which have a 20% chance of redeveloping into a tropical cyclone as they move northward through the Central Atlantic later this week.

Thankfully, there are no concerns for the Lowcountry from the systems, but if that changes, I’ll let you know.
