Sunday’s forecast: Another standard mid-August day
Hello everybody, Jared Smith here with the Charleston Weather Forecast for Sunday, August 20th, 2023.
Well, another warm and muggy day ahead.
I mean, it is mid-August after all.
Expect lows to bottom out in the mid-70s or so as we head towards about 90 degrees in the afternoon.
Mix in the humidity and it’s going to feel more like 100 degrees.
So it goes.
A few thunderstorms will be possible in the afternoon as the sea breeze moves inland.
A couple of those could produce some heavy downpours, much as we saw on Saturday.
A couple spots got 2 to 3 inches and there was even some flooding in Somerville.
Severe weather is not expected, but a couple pockets of gusty winds can’t be totally ruled out with this configuration.
But overall, you know, pretty standard summer fair as we have the final Sunday before school starts.
Quick look at the tropics too.
You’ll notice if you looked at a tropical outlook map that it is absolutely popping out there in the Atlantic.
We’re headed towards the climatological peak of hurricane season on September 10th.
And it’s not terribly surprising to see so many areas of interest out there.
The good news is that there’s nothing really imminent for the low country.
But as always, it’s a good reminder that hurricane season is one of those things that could turn on a dime.
And you’ve got to be ready just in case, you know, a storm does develop.
And, you know, hopefully not, but if something does head our way, you want to be ready for it.
So good time to check your preparedness now before we do actually have something worth talking about here on the podcast as far as the low country goes.
And that’s it for Charleston Weather Daily for Sunday, August 20th, 2023.
