Wednesday's forecast: More afternoon and evening storms, not quite as hot
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Wednesday, August 16th, 2023, as well as a peek at the rest of the work week.
Well the excessive heat has come to an end, at least for a little while.
And while a front stalling to our west won’t completely make it through, showers and storms will remain in the forecast for Wednesday, and those will help to keep temperatures much more reasonable for this point in the year.
While a storm is possible at any point during the day, it looks like the best chance will once again be in the afternoon and evening hours as temperatures reach the low 90s.
Deep moisture will stay in place, and storms could produce pockets of heavy rain as a result.
A strong wind gust or two will be possible as well, but overall the severe threat is relatively low.
And we’ll repeat this on Thursday.
Expect the day to start in the mid 70s, with highs heading to around 90 in the afternoon before another round of showers and thunderstorms fires in the afternoon.
Heavy rain will once again be possible, though it looks like we’ll start to see the deeper moisture begin to get stripped out as we head into the evening, and that may put a lid on coverage and just how much rain ultimately falls.
Drier air will begin to move back into the area on Friday, as ridging builds overhead and the front to the west generally falls apart.
This will cap shower and thunderstorm coverage just isolated along the sea breeze in the afternoon, and temperatures will respond by heading back into the mid 90s.
However, the dewpoints will be nowhere near as heinous as they were recently.
During peak heating, expect a fair bit of dry air to mix down, sending dewpoints to the upper 60s.
This will help keep the heat index well in check.
And while 94 degrees is still plenty hot, at least it won’t come with the suffocating humidity of the past few days.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for August 16th, 2023.
