Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather weekend forecast for August 12th and 13th, 2023.

Heat and humidity will unfortunately become oppressive this weekend as high pressure builds in both at the surface and aloft.

Downslope flow aloft will help compress the air and drive highs into the mid-90s on Saturday and the mid to upper 90s on Sunday.

Meanwhile, surface high pressure out in the Atlantic will keep the winds coming out of the south closer to the ground, which will allow dew points to pull nicely into the mid-70s each day, maybe even a little bit higher behind the sea breeze.

This will drive the heat index above 105 degrees on Saturday, and perhaps approaching or even exceeding 110 on Sunday, which could trigger a heat advisory.

We’re not going to get much relief overnight, as lows start in the mid-70s on Saturday and upper 70s on Sunday.

We’re not likely to get below 80 degrees downtown or at the beaches at all this weekend either.

And if you’re looking for thunderstorms to cool you off, there won’t be many of those either, thanks to the drier air aloft.

You could see an isolated shower or storm or two each afternoon, with a slightly better chance on Saturday than Sunday, but overall, many of us will stay rain-free, muggy, and hot.

So if you’re going to be outside during the heat of the day, make sure you’re taking frequent breaks and getting plenty of water to stave off heat exhaustion or, worse, heat stroke.

Check on the elderly or otherwise vulnerable friends and family as well during this round of heat.

Heat stress can be trouble.

Finally a programming note.

Unless there are major changes to Sunday’s forecast, we’re going to take a rare Saturday night off.

But never fear, we’ll be back on Sunday evening with a look at the week ahead.

And that was Charleston Weather Daily for August 12, 2023.
