Thursday's forecast: Oppressive heat and humidity return with a few thunderstorms possible
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Thursday, August 10th, 2023, as well as a little peek into the weekend.
After a brief reprieve with lower dew points on Wednesday, the heat and humidity turn up once again for Thursday.
It’s going to be a really balmy start, with lows generally in the upper 70s away from the coast, where lows may not get below 80.
Highs should top out in the mid to upper 90s, and this combined with mid 70s dew points will yield heat indices around 105 to 110.
A few thunderstorms will be possible during the day as a disturbance moves by to our north, but the bulk of the activity looks to miss us to the north.
Still, we should see a few pop-up storms throughout the day and especially into the afternoon, and a couple of those storms could produce some strong wind gusts.
We’ll find better storm chances as we head into Friday, as more numerous storms fire and head coastward within the northwest flow aloft.
Once again, a few strong storms will be possible, so we’ll want to keep an eye on that especially as we get later into the afternoon and evening hours.
Temperatures will head back into the mid 90s in the afternoon after another muggy start in the mid 70s before thunderstorms arrive, and we do expect heat indices once again to climb to 105 to 110, and maybe even a little bit higher in some spots.
Can’t rule out a heat advisory, that’s for sure.
More standard scattered afternoon thunderstorm chances return for the weekend as the hot weather continues.
We’ll see highs in the mid 90s on Saturday, and perhaps back in the upper 90s on Sunday, with heat indices once again approaching advisory thresholds before thunderstorms fire and cool at least some of us off.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for August 10, 2023.
