Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Wednesday, August 9th, 2023.

Wednesday will represent a brief lull in the more oppressive humidity as dew points possibly bottom out in the upper 60s during the day.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

Still it’ll be a hot day with highs heading into the mid 90s after starting out in the mid 70s, and there will still be enough mugginess so that heat indices will head towards 100 degrees.

With the drier air comes a rain-free day as well, and we’re not expecting much, if any, in the way of shower or storm activity, especially during the day.

We’ll want to keep an eye on the potential for convective complexes to our northwest to try to make a run at the area overnight into early Thursday morning, though.

Low confidence on that, but stay tuned.

This respite is short-lived, though, as moisture returns to the area Thursday and Friday.

Lows in the upper 70s to around 80, gross, will yield to highs that will continue to run in the mid 90s each afternoon, but with dew points heading back into the mid 70s, should see heat indices making a run for 105 to 110 degrees.

And a heat advisory, too, can’t be ruled out either, especially closer to the coast, where those heat index values could get between 110 and 115.

Let’s hope that doesn’t come to pass.

Disturbances running into this juicy atmosphere will have plenty of instability to play with, and we can expect thunderstorms to develop Thursday as well as Friday.

Remains to be seen if any organized mesoscale convective systems develop and move in, but regardless, it does look like we’ll see at least a scattering of afternoon and evening thunderstorms each day.

A few of these storms could produce damaging wind gusts, so stay alert to this possibility as we close out the work week.
