Monday and the week ahead: Hot start with storms at times
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Monday, August 7th, 2023, with a look at the upcoming week ahead.
This week gets off to a fairly hot start, as westerly winds keep the sea breeze close to the coast for a fair bit of the day.
We’ll start Monday in the mid-70s, before highs head into the mid-90s in the afternoon under partly cloudy skies.
Heat indices should head up above 105, given the low 70s dew points in place, and we could even see a couple spots hit 110 degrees for a brief time.
We’ll also be watching another thunderstorm complex moving towards the area Monday evening within the northwest flow aloft.
It looks like it’s going to be weakening by the time it starts to get into the metro, though if it arrives earlier it may have a little more punch.
A couple stronger storms are possible, with damaging wind gusts the main concern.
Bottom line is to stay alert to quickly changing conditions as we get into Monday evening.
More storms are possible Tuesday as a front starts to approach the area.
First though, it’ll be another hot one, with highs in the mid-90s once again mixing in with somewhat higher dew points in the mid-70s to yield heat indices approaching 110.
The heat advisory is not out of the question, so we’ll definitely want to keep an eye on that.
From there, scattered storms should develop and move across the area once again.
And like Monday, a couple strong to severe thunderstorms are possible, damaging winds being the primary threat once again.
The overall severe threat will be largely governed by how far south a front can get during the day.
A couple solutions bring the front through the metro area, keeping those storms largely to the south, but we’ll need to see how things evolve.
Wednesday will represent a brief reprieve, with dew points generally around 70 degrees and highs in the low 90s, yielding heat indices in the upper 90s to around 100.
There’s still a shot at a storm or two on the sea breeze, but Wednesday looks to represent the lowest rain chances of the week.
They pick up heading into Thursday and Friday as a trough swings through, helping to promote scattered and numerous showers and thunderstorms each afternoon.
We could see this linger a bit into Saturday and Sunday as well.
We’re not expecting a washout for the weekend, but be ready for storms to disrupt outdoor plants.
Temperatures will generally run in the low 90s each afternoon, with rather mild lows in the upper 70s, particularly Thursday and Friday.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for August 7th, 2023.
