Thursday's forecast: One more somewhat pleasant day, then rain and 90s return for the weekend
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Thursday, August 3rd, 2023.
One more day of unseasonably drier air awaits for Thursday before changes come for Friday and the weekend.
We start Thursday in the low 70s and warm to the upper 80s under a mix of sun and clouds.
Should see cloud cover increase throughout the day as disturbances within northwest flow aloft begin to affect the area, but with that in mind, Thursday gets in largely rain-free, though we could see a few showers after sunset.
Rain chances increase overnight Thursday into Friday as a surface front meanders into the area in conjunction with the aforementioned disturbances.
This will keep Friday’s highs only in the mid 80s, given expected cloud cover and scattered and numerous thunderstorms at times.
No severe weather is expected, but some heavy rain cannot be ruled out in some spots.
We stay unsettled heading into the weekend, but it doesn’t look like a total loss either.
Expect a scattering of storms on Saturday as highs return to the low 90s for the first time in a few days.
Slightly lower storm coverage is expected on Sunday, and temperatures will be a little warmer as a result, but still plan for the possibility that rain may disrupt outdoor plans.
Remember, lightning makes every thunderstorm dangerous.
When thunder roars, go indoors.
Finally, we’ll be dealing with coastal flooding with the evening high tides through Friday.
Wednesday evening’s high tide topped out at 8.11 feet mean low or low water, and that’s only the fourth major coastal flooding event on record in the month of August, since records began in 1921.
We shouldn’t quite reach those heights Thursday night, but minor to moderate flooding still looks to be a good bet with a 10.31pm high tide.
This is going to be enough for another round of road closures downtown, probably not going to see as many road closures as we did Wednesday night, but still, it could be enough to be disruptive especially if you’re going to be out later Thursday night.
Friday night’s tide should be more sane, but a brief period of minor coastal flooding can’t be ruled out either.
And by Saturday, offshore trajectories and the cessation of astronomical impacts from the recent full moon will end this round of coastal flooding.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for August 3rd, 2023.
