Friday & the weekend: One more really hot day before it's still hot, but not *as* hot
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Friday, July 21st, 2023, as well as the upcoming weekend.
We have one more really hot day ahead Friday, with heat indices likely making a run at 110 degrees one more time, particularly near the coast as air temperatures head into the upper 90s.
A few of us may see some relief from sea breeze showers and storms in the afternoon while the rest of us continue to bake, and there’s the potential for another thunderstorm complex to affect the area later Friday evening, and we’ll want to pay attention to that carefully for a damaging wind threat.
However, some guidance does suggest that the bulk of the thunderstorm activity with this complex could miss us to the southwest, it all depends on how far to the west that the subtropical ridge generally retrogrades back.
So we’ll stay tuned.
The subtropical ridge continues to lose its influence over the area during the weekend as a trough digs in across the eastern US, driving a weak front into the area before it stalls out nearby.
This, combined with the sea breeze, will keep scattered shower and thunderstorm chances in the forecast each afternoon and evening.
Temperatures will finally back off of the danger zone, though, with highs generally in the low 90s each afternoon.
Heat indices Saturday could make one more run at 105, but we should top out closer to 102 to 103 on Sunday.
And yes, that is an improvement, although it won’t really feel like one.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for July 21st, 2023.
I’m Jared Smith.
