Wednesday's forecast: Yeah, I know, it's still hot
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Wednesday, July 19th, 2023, as well as the rest of what has been and will continue to be a hot work week.
Wednesday will once again feature highs heading well into the mid-90s after another very warm start in the upper 70s inland to around 80 degrees or even higher downtown and at the beaches.
You know, it’s been at least five days since downtown went below 80 degrees, and it’s very possible we may not get below 80 degrees there until Saturday.
And that’s the kind of heat that really adds up.
You don’t get much recovery from the heat of the day overnight when the low temperature is 80 or higher.
Deep westerly flow will keep the sea breeze pin closer to the coast, and it’s here where we’re going to likely find the heat in the seas most likely to approach 110 degrees in the afternoon.
Suffice to say, you’ll want to take it easy if you’re outdoors in the height of the afternoon.
Get plenty of water, wear loose-fitting and light clothing, and take frequent breaks to avoid heat exhaustion or worse.
But if you’re looking for storms to cool things off, well, it’s not impossible.
A stray shower storm is certainly possible.
But I wouldn’t count on them for much relief.
We have a lot of dry air aloft that’s going to stop those updrafts from really getting too well-established.
We had a few of those kinds of storms today where they popped up and popped right back down.
Wildfire smoke will continue to factor into the sky’s appearance, though perhaps not to the degree it did on Tuesday.
Air quality concerns will primarily be around ozone, leading to a code yellow forecast for though it does not appear right now that wildfire smoke will have much impact on the air quality here in the Lowcountry, though we certainly have seen that in the upstate and the Midlands as well.
We’ll keep an eye on it, and if anything changes, we’ll let you know.
The peak of the heat is going to arrive Thursday into Friday.
Expect highs to top out in the mid to upper 90s each afternoon, with mid-70s dewpoints especially near the coast that will likely yield advisory-level heat, and that is heat in the seas 110 degrees plus for two hours or more.
Storm chances remain quite sparse through Friday before increasing over the weekend as the ridge responsible for this heat wave begins to weaken.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for July 19th, 2023.
