Thursday's forecast: One more generally calm day before storms return
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Thursday, July 13th, 2023, as well as a look at Friday and the upcoming weekend.
We’ve got one more relatively quiet weather day on Thursday before a truffle loft digs in and brings some afternoon thunderstorm chances back to the area starting Friday.
Expect Thursday to start in the mid-70s and warm to the low 90s.
Slightly higher surface dewpoints will send heated to seas a little north of 100 degrees during the height of the afternoon.
An isolated shower thunderstorm can’t be ruled out, but most of us in the metro should stay dry.
The dry spell will begin to run out starting Friday as very moist Gulf of Mexico air begins to move back into the area.
We top out in the low 90s once again on Friday, though slightly warmer surface dewpoints will put heat indices closer to about 100-304 degrees before scattered thunderstorms fire.
Heavy rain and lightning are the main concerns.
We get even warmer heading into Saturday and Sunday, with air temperatures topping out in the mid-90s, along with heat indices at least above 105 degrees, and perhaps even approaching 110 degrees in a few spots each afternoon.
Storms should then fire along and ahead of the sea breeze, and they could be fairly numerous as disturbances move by aloft.
Heavy rain and lightning remain the primary concerns, though a wet microburst or two might not be totally out of bounds either.
That being said, don’t wholesale cancel your outdoor plans, but have a solid backup plan indoors in case thunderstorms threaten your location.
Remember, severe or not, every thunderstorm is dangerous because of the lightning it produces.
When thunder roars, go indoors.
