Tuesday's forecast: Drier, seasonably warm
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Tuesday, July 11th, 2023.
We’ve got a quieter day of weather ahead on Tuesday as drier air punches into the area, aloft that is.
This will limit any thunderstorm development to along and ahead of the sea breeze in the afternoon, and even then it only looks like a couple of storms will be able to fire.
We’ll start the day in the low 70s, possibly setting us up for the coolest start to a day since June 28th, when the low was 72 degrees.
Highs top out around 90-91, right in line with climatology.
However, it’s still going to be humid enough near the surface for heat indices to become as warm as 100 degrees, especially in the immediate aftermath of the sea breeze around 3-4pm.
We’ll see similar conditions on Wednesday, perhaps with even fewer clouds at times, before temperatures start a slow uptick on Thursday.
Even still, Thursday’s highs will run in the low 90s, but improving moisture will keep heat indices in the low 100s.
And by Friday, southwesterly winds really begin to kick in, and we’re back in the steam bath with highs topping out in the mid 90s in the afternoon.
Dew points will surge well into the mid 70s, and this could yield heat indices approaching 110 degrees, which may prompt a heat advisory.
There will also be a slightly better chance for an afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm as well.
We’ll keep the heat and humidity going into the weekend too, with nominal storm chances each afternoon, and the possibility of more heat advisories.
Finally, there is one spot in the central Atlantic that the National Hurricane Center has its eyes on for possible tropical development.
But the good news is that it’s well north of our latitude, it’s headed away from us, and won’t have much time to get it together even if it does.
The Hurricane Center gives this disturbance about a 40% chance of development.
So we’ll see what happens.
That being said, there are no concerns for the Lowcountry, and that’s just the way we like it.
