Hello everyone, Jarrett Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Saturday, July 8th, 2023, and taking a peek at Sunday too, because why not?

Well, the warm and storms continue across the Lowcountry this weekend as we remain on the northern fringes of a subtropical ridge aloft, with a trough draped across the Midlands into the Piedmont of North Carolina at the surface.

We’re going to start each day quite muggy.

Saturday is going to start in the mid-70s for most of us, with temperatures possibly not getting below 80 at the beaches.

Highs will warm into the mid-90s, with heat indices approaching 105 degrees before showers and thunderstorms begin to pop as we reach convective temperatures around 2-3 PM.

The inland moving sea breeze will act as a trigger for thunderstorms as well, and then the outflow boundaries those thunderstorms create as they collapse will then help to instigate more storms.

It’s the circle of life, and the typical weekly sheared, pulsed thunderstorm environment we find ourselves in during the summer.

Storms will be slow to move, but as I hinted at earlier, the lack of shear is going to keep them from getting terribly organized and long-lived.

However, the strongest storms will still be capable of some wet microbursts where these boundaries collide, and very heavy rain will be possible in some spots as well.

Daniel Island in downtown took it on the chin on Friday, with rain rates 2-3 inches an hour causing some flooding.

And as always, remember every thunderstorm is dangerous due to the lightning it produces.

And we’ve had several cases where we’ve seen bolts from the blue on the radar this week, so remember, if you’re close enough to hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck.

When thunder roars, go indoors.

Expect similar conditions Sunday as the pattern essentially remains stagnant, with a scattering of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon to help cool some of us off on another mid-90s day with heat indices once again touching 105.

Generally speaking, this weekend is not a washout, but you’ll want to make sure you have indoor backups for your outdoor plans, especially in the afternoon and evening hours.

And that was Charleston Weather Daily for July 8th, 2023.

But I’m going to have more to say on that soon.

Thanks for listening, and I’ll talk to you tomorrow.
