Thursday's forecast: Copy and paste -- more hot, humid, and stormy weather expected
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Thursday, July 6th, 2023, at a peak of the weekend as well.
We’ve got another hot and humid day ahead as temperatures head into the low to mid 90s by early afternoon.
Mix in dew points in the mid 70s and you’ve got heat indices generally running in the low 100s, probably topping out around 103 or so.
Thereafter, convective temperatures will be reached and we should start to see showers and thunderstorms develop as we get further into the afternoon, especially as the sea breeze makes its push inland.
Storm motions out of the west could press up against the inland moving sea breeze and anchor storms in place for a time, potentially putting some spots in jeopardy for some very heavy rain in a short amount of time, much as Daniel Island saw Wednesday.
The stronger storms could produce some damaging downburst winds as well, and we should see quite a bit of lightning once again.
So remember, when thunder roars, go indoors.
We saw quite a few bolts from the blue on Wednesday and it was a great reminder that just because it’s not raining or even the sun is out, does not mean that you cannot be struck by lightning.
Minor coastal flooding is expected with the 1143pm high tide on Thursday as well.
This should be the last event for this round of king tides as Monday’s full moon gets further and further in the rearview.
Expect water levels generally between 7.1 to 7.3 feet mean low or low water in the harbor at the tide’s peak, with flooding possible an hour or two on either side of the tide.
Major flooding impacts are not anticipated, but if you do have to be on the roads at that time, be ready to find an alternate route in case you encounter flooding.
Looking into the weekend, we keep up the generally unsettled weather as the warm and humid air mass remains firmly in place.
Expect highs to run low to mid 90s each day, with scattered and numerous showers and thunderstorms along and ahead of the sea breeze each afternoon.
A few spots could see excessive rainfall leading to flooding, and a stray severe thunderstorm is possible as well, but a widespread flooding or severe weather event is not expected.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for July 6th, 2023.
