Independence Day forecast: Warm, muggy, with afternoon storms
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4th, 2023.
Well we won’t be declaring independence from hot weather this July 4th, that’s for sure.
We’ll get off to a balmy start in the upper 70s, and temperatures will warm into the mid 90s by the early afternoon.
Mix in dew points in the mid 70s and we’re going to have heat indices well above 105 once again.
Be sure to stay hydrated and don’t forget to use that sunscreen too, the UV index will peak at 11 in the extreme category.
The sea breeze is expected to get going by mid afternoon, and from there we could see some showers and thunderstorms develop along and ahead of it.
A couple storms could be on the strong side with damaging wind gusts, but regardless of whether a storm is severe or not, lightning makes every thunderstorm dangerous.
And this can be especially dangerous on holidays like the 4th, where a lot of us are outside doing outside things.
So remember, when thunder roars, go indoors, because if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
Finally, minor coastal flooding is once again expected with a 9.53pm high tide.
This could cause issues for coastal fireworks displays.
Folly Beach cancelled theirs days ago in fact due to the tide forecast.
So be aware of the potential for saltwater on the roads, and find alternate routes if you encounter flooding.
Not to mention if you’re hanging out at the beach later in the night, you might be retreating a little bit further up the dunes than you might have bargained for.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for July 4th, 2023.
