Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for the first day of astronomical summer, Wednesday, June 21st, 2023.

We continue to keep unsettled weather in the forecast for Wednesday into the rest of the work week as a blocking pattern keeps a pesky upper low over the southeast for a few more days.

Wednesday should start mostly rain free, with the better chances for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours coinciding with peak daytime heating.

We start the day around 71 degrees and top out in the mid 80s before thunderstorms kick in.

Heavy rain and lightning remain the main concerns for any thunderstorms that fire.

A couple gusty winds are possible, but overall, the risk for severe weather is very low in the low country.

We keep this general feeling going into Thursday before the upper low begins to get dislodged and starts to move northeast on Friday, and as that happens, that should help the weather improve as we get into the weekend.

Taking a peek at the tropics, we find Tropical Storm Brett continuing to churn towards the Lesser Antilles for impacts there on Thursday as a 65 mile an hour tropical storm.

Wind shear is limiting Brett’s intensification, and the Hurricane Center no longer believes it will be the season’s first hurricane.

Brett is expected to succumb to the aforementioned shear on Saturday, and as such, is categorically not a threat to the low country.

Meanwhile, InVest 93L, which is a few hundred miles to the east of Brett, is increasingly likely to develop into a tropical cyclone by the end of the week.

If it does indeed develop and strengthen into a tropical storm, the next name on the list is Cindy.

While it’s early in the game for 93L, guidance generally points to this storm suffering a similar fate to Brett at the hands of unfavorable winds aloft, and thus, it’s not a concern for our weather here at home either.

Hope I can say that about all of them this year, truth be told.

Finally, the summer solstice arrives at 1057 Wednesday morning.

The sun will rise at 612 AM and will set at 832 PM.

Generally speaking, this week marks the peak amount of sunlight we get this year, and the days will slowly but surely start to get shorter as we get into the weekend.

And that was Charleston Weather Daily for June 21, 2023.
