Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Tuesday, June 20th, 2023.

Unsettled weather continues for Tuesday and much of the rest of the week as a Rex Block, characterized by high pressure to the north and low pressure to the south, takes hold across the eastern US and keeps moisture and disturbances pumping into our area for the next several days.

We could start Tuesday with a few showers or even a thunderstorm or two, but the better chance arrives beginning midday and beyond as temperatures warm from around 70 degrees in the morning to the mid 80s.

And it’ll be a muggy mid 80s with dew points in the low to mid 70s, but that should be relatively short-lived as convective temperatures are reached and the atmosphere goes back to work.

The main concerns with these storms will be heavy rain and lightning, although a few strong wind gusts are possible where outflow boundaries collide.

Suffice to say, be ready for commute delays in the evening and overall just have that rain gear handy.

And in the tropics, Tropical Storm Brett was christened today as the second named storm of the season and the third one eligible for a name thanks to an unnamed subtropical storm in January.

Brett is forecast to become the first hurricane of the season by midweek and looks to pass over the Lesser Antilles on Thursday with about 80 mph winds before emerging back into the Caribbean on Friday.

Wind shear should then work on it and gradually weaken the storm back to a tropical storm on Saturday.

But note that there is still decent spread in the guidance and if Brett gets a little bit stronger it could turn a little bit more to the north and maybe even recurve.

Right now the hurricane center is favoring the weaker and thus more westerly track for Brett in its latest advisory, however, they also note that this is kind of a low confidence forecast.

Still plenty of wiggle room for Brett to maybe get stronger and maybe pull a little bit further to the north.

So, if you have interest in the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Lesser Antilles, planning a vacation, planning a trip, have some loved ones down there, keep an eye on the forecast over the next few days as there is certainly going to be some revisions and updates.

Another disturbance on the heels of Brett, Invest 93L, was tagged earlier on Monday by the National Hurricane Center.

As of the tropical outlook issued at 8pm Monday evening, the storm has a 60% chance of becoming a tropical cyclone this week.

The next name on the board is Cindy.

Now both of these systems currently don’t pose any threat to us here in the Lowcountry, and thank goodness for that.

If that changes, I’ll let you know.

And that was Charleston Weather Daily for June 20th, 2023.
