Sunday's forecast: A touch more humid with an afternoon storm or two possible; turning more unsettled next week
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18th, 2023.
After a warm, rain-free, and even slightly smoky Saturday across the Troy County, more standard mid-June fair arrives for Sunday with a little more in the way of humidity potentially aiding a few scattered afternoon thunderstorms.
We start the day in the low 70s before warming into the upper 80s, and dewpoints in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees will yield heat into seas around 90 to 91 degrees.
As the sea breeze moves inland during the afternoon, isolated to scattered thunderstorms could pop up.
A lack of wind shear will keep these storms primarily pulse in nature and generally below severe limits.
The rain is just going to choke out those updrafts.
You need the wind shear to separate the rain from the updraft to keep the thunderstorm going.
We’re just not going to have that tomorrow.
Still, lightning makes all thunderstorms dangerous, so if one does approach, be ready to move outdoor activities inside for a little bit.
And be sure to take advantage of Sunday as we start to see a transition towards a much more unsettled pattern beginning Monday.
Low pressure is going to cut off over the southeast, and that’ll set up another one of those Rex blocks, kind of like we saw to start the month, but not quite as cold, but it is going to keep things wet for much of the week.
And we could see three to four inches of rain before it’s all said and done, so Sunday might be a good day to mow the lawn.
And finally, we continue to watch an area of disturbed weather way out in the tropics.
The Hurricane Center is dubbed this area InVEST 92L, and it will continue to move west to west northwest over the next couple days, and should become a tropical depression by the middle of next week.
It’s a long way from here, still much closer to the Cabo Verde Islands than anything, and it has a long way to go.
We’ll keep an eye on it, but for now, it’s no issue for the low country.
If that, for whatever reason, changes, I’ll let you know.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for June 18, 2023.
