Saturday's forecast: Warm but not terribly humid as we watch the east Atlantic for rare June tropical formation
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Saturday, June 17th, 2023.
Overall, we have a pretty good looking weekend ahead, but if I had to pick a day, it’d be Saturday.
Highs will top out around 90 degrees in the afternoon with dew points in the low 60s, and that’s pretty good for this point in June.
We could see an isolated shower or storm in the afternoon and evening, but chances are quite good we get the day in rain-free.
Sunday will be a little more humid, but it still should be a pretty decent Father’s Day across the area under mostly sunny skies.
Expect highs to top out around 90 degrees once again with heat into Cs maybe a couple clicks warmer.
Once again, you can’t totally disregard the potential for a stray afternoon shower or storm, but much of us will have an uninterrupted Sunday of partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies.
The pattern then takes a turn for the unsettled as we get into Monday for Juneteenth, and that will only continue to get more and more unsettled as we get into the rest of next week, but let’s not really dwell on that right now.
Just something to plan for.
And finally, a tropical update from near the Cabo Verde Islands.
Now, you’d be forgiven if you thought this was an episode from August, but no, it is in fact still mid-June.
We don’t normally look out this far in the East Atlantic for possible tropical formation this time of year because the Atlantic typically hasn’t warmed up enough here.
But, sea surface temperatures are very anomalously warm, some 3-5 degrees Celsius warmer than normal, and are warm enough to support tropical development.
And sure enough, there’s a disturbance out there that has a high chance of becoming a tropical cyclone by the middle of next week.
It’s got a long way to travel, and there’s a long time to watch it.
We’ll keep an eye on this as it develops, but right now there’s really nothing for the Lowcountry to worry about.
If and when it does form, it’ll get the name Brett, unless another storm takes it first.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for June 17th, 2023.
