Monday's forecast: Warm, muggy, with more storms possible in the afternoon
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Monday, June 12th, 2023, as well as a peek at a warm and unsettled week ahead.
Warm and muggy weather makes its appearance in the forecast pretty prominently this week as we remain within southwest flow from the Gulf, which keeps the moisture pump on and shower and thunderstorm chances in the forecast each afternoon.
Monday is going to start in the low 70s, with maybe a decaying thunderstorm complex moving into the area during the morning, which could bring some showers.
We’ll warm to near 90 degrees in the afternoon with a heat index in the mid 90s before scattered showers and thunderstorms once again fire up and move eastward.
A damaging wind gust or two is possible with these storms, along with locally heavy rain and frequent lightning.
We stay unsettled for much of the rest of the week.
Tuesday may bring a small reprieve as far as humidity goes as a cold front could nudge barely through the area, knocking dew points down from the low 70s to the mid 60s.
However, there’s still a risk for a few showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.
Now Wednesday could turn out especially wet, particularly as we head towards the evening as the aforementioned front stalls out and meanders around the area, while upper level energy swings on through thanks to a baggy trough that’s just going to hang out all week.
This front will eventually fall apart, and standard scattered shower and thunderstorm chances subsequently will persist each afternoon into the weekend.
Overall, we can expect about 2-3 inches of rain across the area this week, with locally heavier and lighter amounts based on where stronger convection moves through.
If you don’t get 2-3 inches of rain this week, please don’t yell.
I don’t know why people do that, but please don’t yell.
We’re running close to 2 inches below normal for rainfall so far this year, so this is going to help keep us on track to avoid drought.
With that in mind, though, there are no areas in our neck of the woods currently outlooked in the drought monitor, so that’s good.
And that was Charleston Weather Daily for June 12, 2023.
