Sunday's forecast: Cooler, drier, with coastal flooding in the evening
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Sunday, June 4th, 2023.
We’ll run a little cooler and breezier on Sunday in the wake of a cold front that’ll move by early in the day.
Expect highs to top out around 80 degrees thanks to the cloud cover and a decent northeast breeze, which could get gusty at times.
Watch for gusts approaching 30 mph at times on elevated surfaces as well as at the beaches.
Now those aforementioned northeast winds combined with the full moon will drive water levels quite high in the harbor a few hours around the 9-10 pm high tide.
Water levels should be sufficient for moderate to major coastal flooding Sunday evening, leading to quite a few road closures around the area, especially in downtown Charleston, maybe parts of James Island as well.
Once again, don’t cross any flooded roads and definitely don’t go around barricades.
Finally, in the tropics, we bid adieu to Arlene, our first named storm of the season after it succumbed to wind shear in the Gulf as expected.
And elsewhere in the tropics, it’s pretty quiet and the National Hurricane Center doesn’t expect any new development over the next seven days.
