Friday's forecast: Still a touch cooler than normal in the afternoon with a slight storm chance; looking rather quiet this weekend
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Friday, June 2nd, 2023.
Well, if you copy and paste Thursday’s forecast onto Friday, you’re doing pretty well for yourself.
Because that’s about what’s going to happen.
We’ll start the day in the mid-60s once again, and highs will top out in the mid-80s in the afternoon, about 84, 85 or so.
Still a little bit below normal for this point in the year.
And a stray shower or thunderstorm will be possible once again in the afternoon and early evening along the sea breeze.
But it looks like the vast majority of us will get Friday in with nary a sprinkle.
And the weekend’s looking alright too, and it’s been a minute since we’ve been able to say that.
Rain chances are pretty low despite a front pushing into the area on Saturday.
Ahead of that front we’re going to top out a little bit warmer.
Should see the highs go to about 85, 86, 87 in the afternoon, so that’s about as warm as we’ve been in the last week or two.
And then for Sunday we’re going to go back into the low 80s behind that front.
And it certainly does look like we’re going to stay below normal for at least a couple more days.
Now if you’re looking for that authentic June sweltering feel, you want it to feel like summer, it is climatological summer, you want it to feel like summer, give it until Tuesday or Wednesday.
We’re going to start to see the winds go back out of the south and southwest, and that will help temperatures reach the upper 80s and maybe even flirt with 90 on those days.
So, it’s coming, but we’re going to need to wait a few more days.
And finally we’re going to take a quick look at the tropics here, and seemingly on in queue for the first day of hurricane season, Tropical Depression II was classified at 5pm in the Gulf of Mexico.
It’s drifting southward pretty slowly, about 2 miles an hour, and it’s not really going to amount to too much, although it could briefly become a tropical storm, and the first name on the list is Arlene.
The forecast track takes it southward towards Cuba over the next couple days, but it’s not long for this world, and it’s expected to fizzle out by late Saturday or early Sunday.
So, suffice to say, not a threat to the Lowcountry, but here we are, it’s hurricane season, and no time like the present to dust off the tracking maps and get ready for a long season ahead.
