Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Wednesday, May 31st, 2023, the last day of climatological spring and the day before hurricane season begins.

A cold front will move through and stall out to our southwest Wednesday, which will allow cooler high pressure to wedge in from the northeast.

This will keep temperatures a few clicks below normal as we head into the final day of May.

We’ll start in the mid-60s and only top out in the low 80s in the afternoon under a mix of sun and clouds.

Storm chances are quite low as to be largely unmentionable, but a stray shower can never to be totally ruled out at this point in the year.

We keep this weather through the rest of the work week.

Thursday and Friday are looking pretty similar.

Friday may feature a slight chance of an evening thunderstorm, but overall expect status quo.

Better shower and storm chances arrive for the weekend, of course, but there’s no indication of a washout.

We’re going to keep these temperatures in place heading into next week, but there is some indication in the longer range that we may get a few days of actual summer wait and see.

Finally, the National Hurricane Center is watching an area in the Gulf of Mexico for a low chance for development over the next week.

This is unlikely to have any impacts on our weather other than to remind us that hurricane season begins on Thursday.

The best time to plan is now.

I like Hurricane.sc from the South Carolina Emergency Management Division for preparation tips, evacuation zones, and a whole lot more to help you get ready for the next few months.

Hopefully we won’t need it.

But as we all know, it only takes one storm to make a hurricane season memorable for all the wrong reasons.
