Memorial Day forecast: Back to the 80s, maybe a stray storm
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Memorial Day, Monday, May 29th, 2023, and also a peek at the week ahead.
More seasonable weather returns to the area just in time for Memorial Day, with warmer temperatures and more in the way of sunshine.
Thank goodness.
We start the day much cooler than normal, with lows bottoming out in the upper 50s, but the record of 53 degrees set in 1961 appears safe.
Sunshine through partly cloudy skies will be sufficient to warm things up into the low 80s, still a few degrees below normal, but certainly nothing to complain about.
The only concern may be the risk for a shower or thunderstorm along the sea breeze in the afternoon, and with deep westerly flow, storm motions will be coastward.
So keep that in mind if you have beach plans in the late afternoon and evening hours.
Otherwise no major weather concerns.
And it’s really great to be able to say that after the past few days that we’ve had.
The forecast for the rest of the week is pretty much copy and paste as we get into climatological summer, which begins on June 1st.
With lows in the mid 60s and highs in the mid 80s each day right around, if not a touch below normal for the last couple days of May and the start of June, there will be the risk of a stray storm or two each afternoon as well as the sea breeze pushes inland.
And we could see a small uptick in showers and storm coverage over the weekend as an upper low meanders around in a front gets nearby, but thankfully there is no sign of any pesky coastal low to send us back into February.
