Sunday's forecast: Improvement begins
Hello everyone, Jared Smith here with your Charleston weather forecast for Sunday, May 28th, 2023, and a look at your Memorial Day as well.
After a couple chilly and somewhat raw days, the weather will begin to improve in earnest on Sunday as the surface low, which has been keeping our weather rather miserable and decidedly not Memorial Day-like over the past couple days, begins to depart to the north.
We start the day in the low 60s with a few showers hanging around.
Not a shower or two can’t be totally discounted throughout the day Sunday, but odds are that we’ll get more of it in rain-free than not.
We should start to see some breaks in the clouds too, particularly as we get later in the day, and this should help temperatures top out in the low 70s in the afternoon.
This remains well below normal for this point in the year though, but is not going to be close to a record low maximum like we may have set on Saturday.
We’ll continue to warm up on Memorial Day as winds go more southwesterly and cloud cover breaks up a little more.
We’ll still get started on the cool side in the upper 50s.
While not a record, this is certainly on the low end of the spectrum of Memorial Day low-temperature climatology.
Sunshine and the aforementioned southwesterly winds will help temperatures get back into the low 80s in the afternoon, making it feel a little more like the unofficial start to summer than the previous few days had.
That’s for sure.
We will need to watch for a few thunderstorms to develop along the sea breeze in the afternoon, possibly aided by a cutoff upper low that will be lumbering through the area throughout the day.
Storm motions do look to be coastward, so you’ll want to make sure you’re keeping an eye on the sky if the beach is in your plans on Monday afternoon.
Other than that though, we’re through the worst of it.
Warming trend continues as we begin June and a meteorological summer.
The temperatures will stay around normal for this point in the year, but at 86-87, so it could be a lot worse.
